Use of the ROVer Ranch

Use in conjunction with Instructional Goals

Provide a general description of the ROVer Ranch and the mission
- Present basic information on robots
- Explore and discuss the topic of robotics
- Form mission groups and assign workspaces

Get familiar with the ROVer Ranch website
- Establish student logins and have students join your assigned class; Leaders must possess a teacher login to create a class
- Have students create a journal and become familiar with class message board and class assignment areas (Comm Center)

Complete preparatory material
- Work through the material in Robots 101: Concepts and Definitions
- Computer time as appropriate for writing exercises
- Group and class discussion

Perform Robot Mission - Select a Mission and Record steps in student journals
- Select Mission Briefing to obtain mission goals
- Select Build Bot to build a robot
- Select Program Bot to script a mission path
- Select Run Mission to run the robot in the simulator
- Select Debriefing to see the mission results summary

Debrief Robot Mission
- Analyze Mission Summaries (located in "Tools/My Private Files")
- Measure success of mission by recording, analyzing, and synthesize the results of mission activities through class discussion and student writing
- Record success *and* failures in journals
- Evaluate and record potential improvements to robot mission
